Finding the Right Use-Cases
The panel began by discussing the process of identifying AI use-cases within organisations. We highlighted the importance of aligning AI applications with organisational goals, ensuring they drive real value. We highlighted the benefit of getting started on the 'AI journey'.
Implemented Use-Cases
We shared fascinating examples of implemented AI use-cases across various sectors. In healthcare, AI is revolutionising diagnostics and patient care. In finance, it's transforming customer relations and risk management. The panel stressed the benefits and necessity of differentiating language processing for various actors, such as banking relationship managers and their clients, or healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses) and patients.
Risks and Challenges
The discussion turned to the challenges of AI adoption, shedding light beyond typical key risks:
-
Bias in AI Systems: AI systems perpetuate biases present in training data, resulting in discriminatory outcomes. Addressing these biases is crucial, especially given the vast array of cognitive biases that exist (more than 80).
-
Data Privacy: The large amount of data required poses threats to privacy, necessitating robust security protocols.
-
Transparency and Accountability: Establishing responsible and explainable AI should be standard practice.
Namely, we emphasised the need for real, considerable data for training, noting that synthetic data doesn't provide the accuracy needed.
We pointed out that computing power, while a challenge, is becoming commoditised. The real challenge lies in managing and utilising data effectively.
Opportunities Ahead
Despite these challenges, the opportunities presented by AI are immense.
-
Collaboration between firms and governments can help establish frameworks that guide ethical AI development.
-
Boards play a crucial role in steering organisations towards responsible AI use, ensuring ethical considerations are integral to technological advancements.
The panel also addressed the subjective nature of "ethics" in AI, discussing how organisations can integrate ethical AI practices tailored to their unique needs. This critical dialogue will shape future developments in both technology and business.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a heartfelt congratulations to our esteemed panelists for bringing diverse perspectives that allowed us to explore responsible and ethical AI use cases through various lenses. A special thank you to the attendees whose challenging questions enriched this powerful and dynamic first-class discussion on real-life applications of responsible and ethical AI. Together, we are shaping the future of AI strategy and implementation, inspired by real business-life scenarios. I look forward with great anticipation to the integration of responsible and ethical AI in our future endeavours.
